Actually, that's what Dean
thinks. On jkrowling.com, there is a section that gives you extra information on certain characters. His dad was a wizard but he never told his muggle wife or family. He was killed by DE because he didn't convert. Dean's dad had long since walked out on the family so they don't know what's become of him. JKR said that she really planned to develop his story line but opted for Neville instead.
