I saw this topic and just had to post. I don't think that college athletes should be paid or receive stipends.

If they can play and have the grades... give them scholarships.

I was a music major most of my college career. Trust me: I practiced more than any athletes I've met. (Between group rehersals & individual practice). I don't recall anyone suggesting that music majors get paid since we couldn't manage our time better.

I knew a lot of student who weren't athletes, but were very involved in other student groups (GLOS, Student Government, etc.). Maybe schools should just start offering time management courses for students who can't handle what they take on.
