Nik crashed his car when he heard on the radio that Zander had Emily hostage and tried to turn around. He was disoriented and wandered off into the woods. He fell down on the doorstep of a cottage. The woman inside must have recently lost her husband...after Nik woke up, she started telling him that he was her husband. It's highly improbable that Helena has anything to do with this storyline.
