I personally wouldn't ever purchase another badge because then I would be wearing a badge I wasn't initiated with. I guess I am really attached to tradition and I feel that all of us having either one of two different badge choices makes us more unified across the nation. The badge is part of ritual and it carries a huge significance that only initiates can share.
Sorry to be cheesy, but to me ritual is the golden thread that ties every Phi Sigma Sigma together. That is something that doesn't change chapter to chapter. I just feel that creating more badge options (outside of possibly offering real gold and sapphires for those willing to spend the money) would create a divergence in the ritual aspect of us.
