WGa Wins 2 National Cheerleading Championships
BRAVES BANNER SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, university professor and president, posted this message to the campus community listservs and we proudly forward it to you this morning. Be proud that you are West Georgia alumni! - fp
"Dear Colleagues,
As a slight -- but proud -- departure from my usual congratulatory
messages about UWG's academic accomplishments, I am delighted to inform you that we won two national championships this weekend:
The women's team won the national championship yesterday. The official press release reads: "After two years of near misses at the UCA National Cheerleading Championships, the Braves' all-girl squad broke through Saturday for their first national title."
Today, the co-ed cheerleading team won the national title for the
***third*** consecutive year. You will recollect that an independent film company, headed by Richard Mix and Sam Hemsley Jr., will soon start filming a movie, Cheer the Brave, about the UWG rise from the ashes of the devastating van accident 5+ years ago that almost decimated the team to
(what we then thought was) two back-to-back national championships -- now three!
In addition, our stunt team won the second prize at the national level. All of these successes epitomize the great spirit of The State University of West Georgia community.
Congratulations to Coach Sherry Cooney, and most of all, to the great student athletes who won -- in so many ways.
Thanks,
Beheruz N. Sethna"
