I have to say that I am very surprised that NCSU is expanding yet again. I was an advisor to one of the sororities there (that is still there) and the rush numbers in the last 5-7 years did not support bringing in another group. I can understand inviting one group after one left, but I do not believe that all the groups have been consistently taking quota and maintaining total right now (from what I have heard). Although there are a large number of unaffiliated women on NCSU's campus, the interest in Greek life doesn't seem to be there, or at least the groups are unable to convince these women to register for rush. I know that Panhellenic has worked to market Greek life to the campus and has tried moving around the rush dates in hopes of having more registrants. I just don't know how successful those efforts have been and if I were a group considering expansion, I might think twice about NCSU right now.
Yes, it is exciting to be the new group recolonizing, and to be in a Panhellenic system expanding, but the numbers and the interest need to support the expansion, and I just don't see it. On a side note, the school administration has not been very supportive of the Greek system at NC State, specifically when it comes to the housing situation.
