od News From Indiana
(Posted: 01-Dec-03)
The Pi chapter of Beta Theta Pi at Indiana University has welcomed a successful recolonization with the recruitment of 45 undergraduates last month.

The collegians post a 3.41 grade-point average, well-above the 2.97 all-fraternity average. Members include a student government vice president, two senators, Judicial Board members, Army Commendation medallist, two National Merit finalists and numerous all-state and all-conference athletes. Members are also involved in Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta and Golden Key honor societies.

Within the new group, nine members are Beta legacies.

Beta Theta Pi is the oldest fraternity at IU, founded in 1845. The recolonization was held November 2-20 on the Bloomington campus by Beta Theta Pi staff Ethan Braden, Casey Gomes, Todd Mattox and David Rae. The team was aided by numerous members of the Pi alumni, including Chapter Counselor Charlie McCormick III, Indiana ’72, and George Bledsoe, Indiana ’62.

The newly-formed group will utilized the Men of Principle initiative. The initiative is designed to refocus on the founding principles of the Fraternity. For more information, please visit www.BetaThetaPi.org/mp/mp.htm

Beta Theta Pi, the oldest college fraternity west of the Alleghenies, was founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1839. Beta Theta Pi is dedicated to scholarship, brotherhood and community service. The Fraternity has some 119,000 living members, including some 6,000 collegians on 124 campuses in Canada and the United States.
