Greetings All Alpha Phis

!!!
Thanks to Jill Flewitt for introducing me to this site. My name is Jeannie Ray and on November second i will become an Alumni Initiate of Alpha Phi. I'm very excited and nervous. For 6 years i have been a member of Tau Beta Sigma (they didn't have Alpha Phi at U of H). But when you graduate there is nothing to do, really. To top that off i moved from Houston (big city) to Atwater,Ohio (very, very small town).
I always wanted to join a greek organization but had a tough time because I'm black. On my campus ethnicities usually stayed within their "color" sorority. It was an unspoken thing and it was just the way things were done. But i never got it, ya know? All my friends are white and it was natural for mt to do what they were doing. I didn't care about color issues since i had always been teased that i was an oreo (black on the outside, white on the inside). When i rushed ppl looked at me like i was nuts but i just took the information and moved on. I never recieved a bid but that was ok. What was not ok was one of the girls actually telling me "I thought ya'll had your own sororities".
Anyway Superfast to the present. I met a Phi named Patti Shears. She is the most wonderful person i have ever met and she really opened my eyes to the organization. She offered to be my sponsor, but me intouch with a the chapter at U of Akron and let them know i was interested in serving on their house board. These ladies made me feel so right and at home there was no way i could say no.
So to all that helped make this happen, Thankyou!!!
