This is a really excellent point. I doubt if many of us have given this much thought.
It reminds me of a smaller situation which occurred here in Denver on a different date.
A few years ago, the Denver Chapter of the Delt Alumni Association started having a Founders Day celebration. Since we couldn't find an exact date for the founding of the Fraternity (long story about missing early records), we chose a Thursday in April for the first one. The next year, we chose the same Thursday in April, but it happened that it fell on the first anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings.
Life simply has to continue, so we planned a moment of silence, and moved on. Sometimes you just have to.
