True (although as an alum, I take a little exception to the idea that we shouldn't be expected to remember mottos and other secrets revealed in rituals. But maybe that's jsut me.)
But in any event, Phi Delta Theta has an open motto that appears on its coat-of-arms. According to the Phi Delt website:
The open motto, EiV anhr oudeiV anhr (Eis aner oudeis aner), was adopted in 1880 and means literally, "One man is no man," or more freely interpreted, "We enjoy life by the help and society of others."
Maybe its just me, but it seems like someone might have remembered one of the English translations. "One man is no man" is pretty catchy and easy to remember. A really good open motto, I think.
