You know, I used to work for Academic Computing Services at CSULB. If you go to the North Campus Center/Horn Center you can go to either the Open Lab or the Media Development lab to use software and equipment to transfer the videos from VHS to digital or online format.
I myself own a Macintosh and I use iMovie to edit and format video. I recently coverted some footage to Quicktime format for use on a website.
Of course, being a former ACS Lab Consultant, I can tell you that the student employees there would be more than happy to help you get started on the project. At least, they *should* be happy to help!
