A black university administrator from Florida will be Indiana University's
17th president.
The appointment of Adam W. Herbert will be announced Thursday, when the nine-member Board of Trustees meets at the Musical Arts Center in Bloomington, an IU source said today.
Adam W. Herbert
Herbert, who will become the university's first black president, is the executive director of The Florida Center for Public Policy and Leadership at the University of North Florida.
From 1998 to 2001, he served as the sixth chancellor of the state university system of Florida until Gov. Jeb Bush dismantled it.
In November 1998, Herbert was named to lead Bush's transition team.
Prior to his work with Bush, Herbert served as president of the University of North Florida for 10 years. During that time, he was a member of the NCAA Executive Board.
Herbert replaces Myles Brand, who left in January to lead the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Since IU is the birthplace of Kappa Alpha Psi, I decided to post it here in Kappa Korner.
Congratulations!
