As everyone said - it is going to be HOT in Fresno but it also depends on where she's coming from in the first place (ie Phoenix or Maine, etc).
It definitely isn't small and rural (okay rural compared to Los Angeles). If your sister is an outdoorsy type then she's within driving distance not only of Yosemite but also Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks (The trees are huge there). It's also central to much of California and only a few hours drive to LA, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and the rest of the coast, Sacramento etc. I'm not sure how far from Las Vegas or Reno, Nevada but probably not that far.
