Honestly, I like Hillenbrand - he's a good dude, plays hard, and really likes playing for the Sox . . . but he's replaceable.
First off, Billy Mueller is a good defensive player, and the Sox are just killing the ball as a team; over a full season, the drop in productivity would be minimal.
Second, the Sox have a guy named Kevin Youkilis in AAA that looks like he's ready to go - he's one of the top 5 prospects for the Sox, and he'll be ready by later this season to come to the Bigs.
If it comes down to it, the Sox may be better off w/ trading Shea - he's 28, so he's not exactly young, he doesn't walk, and his numbers have fading dramatically each season in the second half. Lots of teams are looking for cheap infielders, and if the sox can flip Shea for a good arm, maybe Juan Cruz from the Cubs plus a prospect, it might end up being a great deal.
For now though, he's killing the ball.
PS - I just got back from Fenway, sox came back in the 8th to win, so i'm all fired up - great game
