Sorority celebrates 50 years at NT
Since founding in 1953, it has grown to 70 members

Alpha Delta Pi, the first sorority on the NT campus, is celebrating their golden anniversary this year.
To commemorate their 50th birthday, the sorority is planning a formal gala that will be held this fall.

This event will bring together former and current members and will give them a chance to reminisce and make new acquaintances, Ashley Bateman, sorority president, said.

"One of the most rewarding parts of being part of a sorority is meeting older alumnae and to learn and hear their stories," Bateman said.

Bateman, who is in her first term as the chapter president, said the support the organization received from the university has contributed to their 50-year success.

"I am extremely proud to be a part of this organization," she said.

When the sorority was founded in December 1953, they had 28 members.

Today, they have 70 members 55 of whom are listed as active.

Last fall, Alpha Delta Pi presented a check to the Ronald McDonald House for $700, emphasizing the commitment to community service that first attracted many of the sorority's members.

Although many of the sisters keep busy with social and community service activities, they pursue academic excellence as a top priority.

Today, there are more than 170,000 Alpha Delta Pi members worldwide and more than 130 collegiate chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
