Doing community service........

I have to do some community service and I was wondering if any of you had some ideas and what you think of mine......

As of now I am a career academic adviser volunteering my precious time at my school......I'm doing this to look good on paper since I skipped out on my comm service back when i pledged in 98. I just started at this new school but i've come to realize there's not much hope for many of the individuals and I feel bad for telling them their not going to finish college in a timely manner. So, I'm thinking about volunteering as a male mentor to younger boys. I'll be teaching them things about life and how to act, as well as helping them excell in todays society. The boys I'll be mentoring are those from "not so good" childhoods and lower income families. I'll be doing this through a Childrens Pyschological research group through the university. My role in this program is somewhat small but it seems as though it may be "draining" if you will.

So my question is.......what are some other suggestions for community involvement that will make me look like I care about the public?
