IMO San Diego offers everything for a family vacation. When our children were young it was just a couple of hours south and it offered so much for us to enjoy.
Beaches, parks, historic sites, amusement/water parks, their world class zoo and wild animal park. Also there are plenty of amusements for those over 21 too.
