I've been lurking. I was in a sorority at IU in the 1980s and my daughter is going through recruitment. She has seven sororities left and they may not be "top" in the popularity rankings but have plenty of strong qualities. As for the big cuts, it seems like that aspect has not changed much at IU. When I went through the parties were 18-12-8-4-2. I had nearly all the sororities I wanted for 12 party but took big cuts after that and attended one party at preference. But it worked out! I fear some girls had their pick going from 22 to 16 and then took big cuts going to 9 and so they are now discouraged and dropping out. That is really a shame because the sororities they have left are most likely very strong. And I do realize that some girls have been invited back to just a few sororities, which are considered less selective. The reality is at least a third of the PNMs at IU end up in one of these sororities, drop recruitment because they get to these choices they "don't like," or just don't get invited back to any.
