We don't have laptops or tablets out because we sit in a lecture hall that doesn't have the space for those. They're also just not part of the chapter culture, in that unless you're taking attendance or running the Powerpoint show there's no reason for you to be having one. We tell girls to get a planner to write things in unless we explicitly tell girls to put a phone number in their phone and then put it away. We also have a recording secretary who sends out the minutes after every chapter meeting so anything a girl misses can be read afterwards.
I don't know if that helps you solve your problem but that's how my chapter works.
