Prospectives - Watch Out!
Here's a note about things that prospectives need to watch out for ESPECIALLY just before recruitment begins!
Ask your Rho Chi to explain Rush Infractions (what they are, some examples, etc.) so that you will be informed before you are involved. Example...during rush last week, several prospectives were seen with ABC sorority at fraternity parties. All sororities on campus know that rush is totally dry and that we are not to be drinking (especially in public) PERIOD! Not only that, but we are not to talk or socialize with prospectives - we aren't even supposed to say "hey" and all that.
So we dropped these girls immediately and called infractions on ABC - but the prospectives were hurt because they didn't know it was an infraction.
Another infraction - if a sorority
"promises" you a bid - tell your Rho Chi (privately) immediately after the party. This is often done to ensure that many prospectives will put down ABC as their first choice (since they've been led to believe that they will get a bid). Then the prospective is let down when she doesn't get a bid.
Another thing....it is not a good idea to be out drinking before rush - especially not when you start throwing up outside a frat house. People see you and people talk. We also dropped a few prospectives for this too.
When in doubt, ask your Rho Chi. She is supposed to be completely unbiased and turn in any infractions, even if its her own sorority. If you ever feel like she isn't being unbiased go straight to the panhell advisor. You won't "get in trouble" because everything is confidential.
The point is for each prospective and sorority to get the best match ~ not for dirty tricks! I just don't want to see any prospectives get penalized for being involved in something they weren't even aware of.
