Arizona has a significant # of CA students (I can't speak for ASU, haven't done any research) due to the steep cost of attending an in-state university or college (either the UC system or the CSU system). It's closer to home for these students, as well.

Continuing the swerve: similar to University of California at Eugene? Aka University of Oregon? Two years ago 20% of our student body was from California. I'm struggling to find more recent numbers, but I know they haven't gone down. Almost half our freshman class 2012 class was from out of state at 46%.
