Doesn't she ever plan to come back to visit? I've seen plenty of alumnae have candle passings at formals. AFAIK it's not a closed ritual for any groups (if I'm wrong, please correct me).
To clarify: has she graduated already, or is she graduating at the end of the fall 2014 semester, or at the end of the spring 2015 semester? If it's one of the latter two, I don't know what the problem is. Lavalier her when you're ready.
And I agree with G & Q that some campuses don't pin as much as others.
