Lavaliering is similar to giving a girl your class ring when you are in HS-it's like formally announcing that you are going steady. It's not that big a commitment in the grand scheme of things. Pinning your girlfriend (giving her your fraternity badge to wear) is like being pre-engaged, and giving her an engagement ring is.....you guessed it, getting engaged. It sounds like you are putting more significance on lavaliering than is necessary.
