You didn't do something you really wanted to do because of your friends. You have realized this was a bad plan. The time window to do what you wanted to do and have what you wanted to have is gone. Call it a lesson learned.
Honestly, in this neck of the woods, you are way overstating the fraternal ties as far as business is concerned. If someone from (example) Drexel has a choice between hiring someone else who went to Drexel, but wasn't in his fraternity, and someone in his fraternity who went to UCLA...guess what...the Drexel grad is probably going to have the upper hand.
