I had a small outside sliver on both big toes removed, and chose to NOT allow them to grow back. I'll be honest, it sucked for the first few months while the skin was healing, but I havent had any trouble since. Plus, the sliver was so small, that you really can't tell. Even when I get pedicures now, unless I've told you that they were partially removed, they still look normal.
Same. I got them all the time in high school. I would take off my socks after a basketball or softball game, and they would be soaked with blood and puss. I don't think I would ever trust a pedicurist to remove one. I went to one podiatrist, who would cut the nails back, and they would go away for a while, but they'd always come back. It was awful. I eventually went to a different podiatrist, and he said the only thing that would "cure" it would be to remove that portion of the nail entirely so it would never grow back. He numbed both big toes with a local, then on the outside of each toe, he removed about 1/8th of an inch of nail all the way down to the bed, and then cauterized the nerve so it would never grow back. Problem solved. Never had another ingrown since (knock on wood).
