ALPHA GAMMA DELTA RESOLVES CHAPTER AT VIRGINIA TECH
International Council of Alpha Gamma Delta regrets to announce its decision to resolve the Theta Chi Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) into its alumnae chapter effective at the end of the spring term, May 11, 2011. This decision was reached in consultation with the collegiate chapter after several years of decreasing membership.
“After much deliberation, International Council of Alpha Gamma Delta believes this plan of action is in the best interest of Theta Chi Chapter, as the collegiate members were not having the fullest Fraternity experience that is the right and goal of membership,” said Jackie Brannon Stutts, International President of Alpha Gamma Delta. “We look forward to a time when Alpha Gamma Delta can successfully return to Virginia Tech.”
Alpha Gamma Delta is sincerely appreciative of all who have supported Theta Chi Chapter, including the members, new members, alumnae, Advisor Team, Volunteer Service Team, International Headquarters staff, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the College Panhellenic.
As of May 2011, all collegiate members of Theta Chi Chapter in Good Standing with the Fraternity will be granted alumnae status and will have the opportunity to experience sisterhood through participation in alumnae activities such as a Junior Circle or an alumnae chapter or club. As of today any new members may be released from membership if they wish, or may choose to participate in an Initiation Service later this semester.
Volunteers and staff will be supporting the chapter in preparation for the end of term. For more information on the Theta Chi Chapter resolution, contact Abbie Schneider, Director of Fraternity Services, at aschneider@alphagammadelta.org.
Alpha Gamma Delta was founded in 1904 at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York as a women’s fraternity dedicated to scholarship, leadership and community service. Alpha Gamma Delta has installed 185 chapters on campuses throughout the United States and Canada with a total membership exceeding 155,000. One of the first fraternities to establish a philanthropy, Alpha Gamma Delta internationally supports diabetes awareness and education. For more information, please visit www.alphagammadelta.org.
