My Serendipitous Recruitment Story
Hi everyone! So, I’ll start off by saying I’ve been reading GC for a few weeks now, and I cannot thank you girls enough for the helpful advice and entertaining stories you’ve provided. As my recruitment comes to an end, I am so thankful that I had access to GC as a resource. Anyway, without further ado, here’s my story!
I’ll start from the very beginning. I’m a sophomore this year, and when I was a freshman, I considered rushing but ultimately decided against it because I was so busy during my first few days at college and none of my immediate friends or roommates were doing it. Over the course of freshman year, I knew several girls who were active in sororities and it made me regret not going through recruitment. I thought I had missed my chance after freshman year.
Fast forward to my first day back on campus this school year. After moving in, I headed out to grab a bite to eat. I was walking around campus, and on my way back to my dorm, I happened to pass the auditorium where orientation was being held at that very moment! I was approached by a very friendly girl who was directing PNMs into the auditorium, and she asked if I was there for orientation. At that moment, I knew that this was a sign. I quickly signed up for recruitment and filled out my application, and I was so glad to hear that my sophomore status would not prevent me from rushing. The auditorium was very crowded for orientation, as I heard there was an exceptionally high number of PNMs this year. At orientation, they showed slideshows and I met my Rho Gamma and the other PNMs in my rush group. I loved the enthusiasm that everyone brought. It was so much happier and more welcoming than anything I had experienced as a freshman.
Next post will be about first rounds. I'm still trying to think of a code system that won't give away what school I go to!
