I was an advisor for a chapter with this situation. There, recruitment was held in empty classrooms, and the meetings were held in a meeting room in the Union. There are a LOT of campuses that don't have chapter houses. They're actually very expensive to maintain, so although I loved my chapter house, it's not all bad to not have one.
I think you'll find your type of recruitment stories popping up before too long. It's really only the huge campuses that prefer to start recruitment before school starts.
