It's not the same thing. She may not have the competition to get a bid, but not everyone who pursues membership in a service GLO is successful in that pursuit (as opposed to NPCs where it's almost impossible to kick out a pledge). Also, service fraternities/sororities don't really dig it when members pledge and then leave either.
It's something for her to check out, and who knows, she might like it and its mission better than a purely social GLO, but service Greeks are not to be used like Splenda.
