Thumbs up Awesome Achievement!

Did you all see this on the AGD website??? So cool...

Canadian Entrepreneur Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Doreen Montgomery Braverman, Delta Zeta-University of British Columbia, received the 2001 Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award for her successful business in Vancouver, British Columbia.

For 25 years, Doreen’s company, International Flag & Banner, Inc. (The Flag Shop), has been manufacturing flags and banners for events including the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. The movie industry has also hired The Flag Shop to create their bizarre textile requests on a deadline.

The Flag Shop began as a whim for Doreen after her 10-year career as an elementary school teacher and as an associate professor at Simon Fraser University. Doreen bought a small regalia company that quickly grew from one shop to 11 across Canada; nine are franchises and two are corporate stores. The Flag Shop was the first full-service (design to installation) flag store in North America, perhaps in the world. Today the chain of flag shops holds the number one position in the industry in Canada.

Besides serving as President of The Flag Shop, Doreen is also the Director of VanCity Credit Union and a Director of VanCity Foundation, which is committed to being a catalyst for social and economic justice in a sustainable environment.

“The Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose was a solid inspiration to me, especially the pledge ‘to welcome the opportunity to contribute to the world’s work in the community in which I am placed...,’” Doreen said. “I have always been active in volunteer and trade associations. In return for my efforts, I have benefited so much from the broad networking. I look forward to opportunities to speak at schools and associations, and to act as a mentor to others wanting to start their own businesses.”
