So these would seem to be more like mixer shirts -- I'd guess they say something like "XYZ Family Weekend 2010." If it's okay with the chapter, I don't see why it's a problem. If the sorority in question has a problem with having letters on something that will be worn by non-members, then it's the chapter's fault for giving their guests tee shirts they shouldn't be wearing.
VB29 (or should it be miss_etiquette?), shut up and go back under your bridge, which I doubt very much is in the South.
