A domestic DISPUTE and domestic VIOLENCE are two different things. I used the terminology "domestic dispute" to refer to the typical arguments that husbands and wives have with each other. And no, keeping quiet about those kinds of things is not bad. It means they are just keeping their business private. Right now, we really don't know if she actually hit him or not. It is simply speculation. And there has been nothing to indicate that he hit her either.
