The idea of the SCHOOL making any philanthropy event mandatory strikes me as wrong, wrong, wrong! Sure, a chapter can make an event mandatory if they want, but you should not be required to help a cause/chapter you don't want to.
If the school think ya'll won't do philanthropy without them requiring you go to X and Y events, they can simply require a certain number of hours from each chapter.
