Honor Initiation

While I was attending college, I was a member of a prospective Delta Delta Delta colony headed by a Tri Delta collegiate member. Unfortunately, the chapter did not come to fruition and I was never able to join.
I have since graduated from college and am now attending law school at a school without a Tri Delta chapter.
I am still interested in Tri Delta and desire to be a member of this great organization.
I have written to nationals about my interest and have been told that I need a sponsor and an unanimous vote from the executive board.
My problem is that I have since lost touch with the Tri Delta who was running my now disintegrated organization and I feel weird asking her for such a large favor. I would like to contact the New York alumnae chapter and possibly build a sponsorship that way. However, I wonder if that would seem innappropriate or an imposition. What do you all think?
Secondly, I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to gain approval by the executive board and whether it is very difficult.
Any information or experiences you might have to offer would be appreciated.
Thank you
P.S. feel free to PM me if you do not want to post your response
