How Old is Too Old to Step?

I'm glad you decided to comment because you helped a lot. There really are women 35-40+ years old stepping? Wow. I didn't know! And, I definitely didn't want any older women from my sorority trying to be the first and catching flack. But, if it's something that's common (or becoming more common) then I need to catch a clue and rethink my position... and like I said, if members decide they want to step then it'll happen regardless of what I personally think. I think it's best to leave it up to each individual chapter to decide.

Staying away from the signature steps/moves/chants, etc... okay, will do. That's only right and reasonable even though I don't know what they are, or what a stroll is, and I've never been to a step show. Looks like I'll be spending time on YouTube to try to learn who does what so none of us do it.

As for learning how to step, I suggest purchasing an instructional stepping DVD online which demonstrates the basic moves. After that make up you own steps but there are so many groups out there stepping now that you're bound to copy other groups' moves whether intentional or not. Just stay away from doing the D9 orgs' signature steps/moves/chants/styles and if you're on a college campus, you might want to seek their help/advice if you care about how they might feel and want to possibly be invited to step in their shows (although some stepshows are exclusively for D9 orgs only). Every campus is different. Some D9 chapters/members don't care who steps and others do care. The other thing you can do is to make up strolls and compete in those competitions. Everyone strolls these days and no one seems to care who does it. Or better yet, start a new creative/rhythmic tradition that only your organization is known for...that is until someone copies it...and they will.
