Because you can get a good rate holding the pageant there during hurricane season and it's a lot more appealing than Wichita, KS (which was a possible location). Unfortunately, it's cost-prohibitive for a lot of families/friends of the contestants to attend.
The daughter of a coworker is competing, which is the only reason I know this.
