Recently, in a fraternity listserv, a venture by Brother was being advertized. It was a social networking instrument whereby one would potentially be able to connect with someone one saw by virtue of a chance encounter but was not able to meet them or were "two ships passing in the night." This concept is interesting in that the literary trope of the unrequited longings of would-be star-crossed lovers cheated by fate or circumstance has fueled the imagination for generations. With technology helping to close the gap between our imagination and desires and the ability to fulfill our wishes, does this make for better relationships. I thought this concept was interesting, if not for some potentially uncomfortable and creepy interactions.
