My (almost) LIVE recruitment thread!
Hey y'all!
I've been reading greekchat for about a month now, learning from you lovely ladies and gents and biding my time until my shining moment came, so here is my rush story!
I'm originally from the south, so I grew up surrounded by greeks. Everyone I knew who went greek loved their organization and brothers/sisters, so I was thrilled when I learned that my school has a very active greek life. Although at my northernly school it is not as competitive to get into a sorority as it is in the south, getting into certain chapters can be quite difficult. Of course there are stereotypes about the different houses, but I try to ignore them and form my own opinions.
My school goes through winter recruitment, which started yesterday(!!!) There are twelve chapters at my campus. For set one, the first day we visit six houses, the second the other six. Then we cut three, and set two we visit up to nine houses, but an average of 4-6. After that we rank our top six, and set three we visit up to six houses, average of 2-4, then we rank those we visited again. pref night is up to three houses, average of 2, and I think you all know how the last process works a lot better than I do. Bid night is Tuesday.
I had set one last night and it was a blast! I had so much fun. Although I was supernervous for approx 2 months solid right up until it started, as soon as I walked in the door all my jitters evaporated. By the time the last party was over, I didn't want rush to end.
Since I'm a dancer, I decided to code the houses after my favorite dances.
DAY ONE (in no particular order)
ELECTRIC SLIDE- Although these girls were sweet, I was pretty sure I wouldn't fit in with them. They were a little awkward and and didn't seem very outgoing, although they were enthusiastic about their sisterhood. Listening to stereotypes is something I try to avoid, I couldn't help but agree with their "unfortunate looking" diagnosis. I'll probably cut them tomorrow.
JITTERBUG- These girls had a lot of energy, but they seemed all over the place. They didn't seem too sisterly, and they weren't able to hold a conversation on a single topic, so they kept reverting to standard questions (favorite movie, activities, etc.) even when we could have talked about it for a while in other houses. Not a fave.
CONGA LINE- loveLoveLOVE these girls. They are an up and coming chapter and very respected on our campus. I clicked immediately with everyone I talked to, awesome rushers, great convos. However, i knew one of these girls prior to rush, and we really didn't mesh :/ I'd love to be invited back, but i don't think i'll get that chance
CHICKEN DANCE- Although I know one girl I really like in this chapter, I feel really uncomfortable here. The girls space out a lot and can't carry a conversation in a bucket. I know there are great girls here, but the one's I talked to were a rather unfortunate bunch. I'll cut this one tomorrow for sure.
YMCA- Fun girls, but I didn't like the way their rush was set up. I must have met at least ten different rushers, which only gave me a few minutes to get to know someone before they were ushered away. They are considered a good-looking, outgoing sorority and I agree. I'd like to go back to this one and see if I could get to know the girls a bit better.
SOULJA BOY- This is a new house, but I can see that they're doing really well. Their sisterhood seems really strong, and they're trying really hard to impress the PNMs. Although they only had COB last year, they seemed to get some really great sisters. Last year, they had a rep of taking anyone, but I think that's going to change because I met some awesome girls here. I would like to go back.
Coming up tomorrow: Macarena, Thriller, Clogging, The Twist, Can-can, and Limbo!
