I am not the best person to ask as I live about a half hour south of the city and don't really go up there, but I have not found any good shopping outside of the South Park Mall, which is within driving distance but not super close.
As for going out at night, I'd love to know myself. Everyone says Charlotte is awesome, but I seem to be missing out on all the fun!
