On the wine/champagne idea, one cool thing to do is to make sure the year on the bottle is the year the couple met and point it out in the card. I think it shows a little more thought into the gift. This might not work if they just met within the last year for an engagement gift, but in that case it is an idea for a nice 1-year anniversary gift!
