Kappa Delta Trivia

While everyone's thinking about that one, I've just got to tell the story of how I learned this.

One of my roommates during college was a Sigma. Our sophomore year, her grandmother died. I went with her to the funeral, and helped out with all the visitors/food/cleaning/etc (this woman was so loved, it was incredible how many visitors there were).

Anyway, Grandma lived in VA her whole life, and so did all her family. Grandma's mom (so, my roomie's great-grandmother) graduated from Longwood College. As we were going through Grandma's things (deciding what to donate, sell, distribute to family, etc), we found her mom's college yearbook from the early 1900's.

So, we're looking through the yearbook, trying to find pictures of Grandma's mom, and we found the sorority pages. We didn't even think to look for them! I don't remember seeing anything about ASA, but we didn't have an ASA chapter on our campus, so I didn't even to think to look for that. But, we saw the KD, Sigma, and ZTA pages.

We learned a lot that day. Way more than either of us had learned during our pledge periods. We had both learned about Julia and Lucy being roomies, but we didn't know how ZTA fit in (neither of us was close to a ZTA). The history of the groups really is fascinating. I wish I knew more!

We wanted to take the yearbook back with us so we could share it with our chapters, but my roomie's aunt wanted it. We couldn't really say no to her.

So, there's the story. I would never have known it if I hadn't gone to my roommate's grandmother's funeral all those years ago...
