Um, nice try.

While they (they're a people, not a "character") are considered a part of Hawaiian mythology, some Hawaiian scholars actually say that they did exist. Fishponds and heiau from Kauai suggest that the menehune built them long before the first known voyagers from the Marquesas and Raiatea set foot in the Islands in the 11th Century. They're said to live in the forest, but no -- their job isn't to guard waterfalls. They're builders and tricksters.

Why anyone would want to call their significant other that is beyond me. After all, menehune (pronounced meh-neh-hoo-neh, not meh-knee-hoo-knee) are often called the Hawaiian version of dwarfs and trolls because of their size and big bellies.

But hey, if the fiance wants to = you to a short and plump Hawaiian troll, go for it!

The last scene where Uncle Jesse sings "Rock-A-Hula" was filmed at the Polynesian Cultural Center, owned by the Mormon Church. I've only been there two times (as it's a total exploitation of the Polynesian cultures) and I'm surprised I haven't turned into a pillar of salt yet, considering how I feel about the Mormons.
