HC I had a great experience, bordering on profound tonight
HC I went to a talk given by the President of the College where I work
HC he said that the question that we as educators (everyone in our society acting as an educator in one way or another) have to ask our students (children, students, mentees) is what do YOU want to learn? What do you want to DO with that learning?
HC that is sthe question that almost every person at this college has asked themselves
HC I feel like I am just now starting to even think about answers to that question- what do I want to learn from my life? what do I want to teach the people I love?
HC it really set off a chain of thought in me
HC I don't really have the temperament to journal, but if I did, I would right now
HC writing out HC's is about as close as I come to a journal, lol
HC I want to ask the alumni that I work with that question- what do they want to learn/teach by being alumni? what is their responsibility to do BOTH of those things?
HC I had one of the most expensive educations on the planet, and not once did ANY teacher I ever had ask me that
HC I bet none of them ever thought that they should- it was always more about what do your PARENTS want you to do someday, and how do I steer you towards their desires
HC I had to move 2k miles away to ask MYSELF that question?
HC I almost feel guilty for it- all my life I feel like I've been taught that my life is not my own- it belongs to my family and my community
HC I truly believe in the words service to all mankind
HC I have to ask myself what service can I offer? what service do I want to offer? how do I make my world better?

HC I love my job tonight....
