Interesting thread...the definitions of "formal" intrigues me. I once read an article in our magazine by a brother "made" in the '20s. He said that in his chapter, Alpha, monthly chapter meetings were formal, that is "black tie"; he lamented the growing informaility in dress in chapter meetings.When I was an undergrad, our meetings were casual, since we almost never had formal ritualistic meetings. At grad level in the chapter I'm in now, the attire is suit and tie but this is not adhered to very strictly.
