re: trivia question
RIGHT! ThKN considered Native Americans to be "of the Aryan
race" and admitted them.
In the early '60s, when the race issue was heavily debated,
and at least one chapter (Hamilton) was lost since they decided
to admit non-whites against LXA's consitution, our chapter
pledged a N.A. hoping he would look "white" in the photo
sent to HQ (along with Pledge form and dues, chapters had
to send a pic, usually B&W, to HQ for 'racial' approval in those
days).
HQ informed the chapter he was not white enough, and had
to be de-pledged. The chapter's response was "this charter
is hanging here on the wall...if you want it, come and get it...
we're going to initiate this guy!"
No action was taken against the chapter, probably because
those working at HQ didn't agree with the white-only policy
anyway, and knew that in a very short time, the undergrads
at General Assembly would vote to remove the race restriction.
He is now one of our WEALTHIEST alums! ha!
