2 statements and I'm gone..
#1. Non-Greeks normally see Greeks doing service when 'they themselves' are also doing service or are in the same organizations/at the same causes (breast cancer awareness/walks, tutoring, helping Katrina victims, etc).
Those non-Greeks that aren't service oriented at school won't see those things and might assume they're not taking place. It's also on the Greeks to promote the service as if it was a party (even though, Bibically.. you're not supposed to really 'big up' yourself when doing service.. but that's neither here nor there for this thread).
#2. Centaur... there's a time and a place for everything. I never would expect any Man to be a punk. But your probate show is not the time to throw darts. And that goes for any org. The main problem with modern day Undergrad Greeks is that after they finish pleadging, their Prophyte stop teaching the culture of the Fraternity and Sorority to them. They just sorta teach them the challenges.. a few Marches/steps and turn them loose.
Which has ended up in these not fully taught Greeks losing a lot of traditions and making up ish as they go.
ie: crossing hand signs, unity steps (WTF), unity calls (ditto), Fraternities doing Sorority steps (Super Gay... at a stepshow, if I wanna see an AKA step, the AKA's should be doing it). Vice Versa for the Sororities... You all have rich stepping histories. Do your S#!t !!! Cause you represent yourself better than anybody else.
I don't need to share a 'sign, step, handcall' with you to call you my brother/friend/patnah and definitely not to 'show unity'.
I can (and do) show unity with you when we do joint service to help our campus and community and support each others events without tearing each other down.
Now.. there is a place for clowning and jokes.. and it's called your "Yard Show" or just any other non-formal time you feel like stepping/showing out.
