DUI's are HELLA serious crimes. You can EASILY kill someone driving drunk. I think about 80-90% of all deaths in DUI's are NOT the person drinking, but the innocent in the other car. When you are convicted of a crime, you lose certain rights and privliages. If you lose the "right" to drink, I say too bad, so sad. If you are getting DUI's, you obviously can't be a responsible drinker, so therefore I believe it's completely fair. If ONE person's life is saved by a DUI offender not being able to drink, I think it's 100% worth it.
Also, the article said "repeat offenders". Even growing up in the DUI counseling enviroment, I know that people have accidents - they think they're fine when they're not, but generally those people it only takes one and between the jail time, lost license and lost wages, finacial expense, etc, they learn their lesson and are more careful. Repeat offenders don't or won't learn, they don't care, so yes, if it takes someone babysitting them to keep others out of danger, go for it!
