Exclamation New Orleans Mayoral Race

Assist in getting the word out to ALL displaced survivors of Hurricane Katrina:

To become aligned with one of the many initiatives now in motion to encourage displaced residents to vote, contact any of the following organizations:

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
http://www.naacp.org
(866)-OUR-VOTE

The Be Heard Campaign
http://www.beheardcampaign.org

Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN)
http://www.acorn.org

How Can I Help?
Membership or participation in one of the above groups is neither required nor mandated to assist displaced voters in exercising their much fought for right to vote in Louisiana’s April 22 election. Persons and organizations who wish to assist displaced voters in voting in the state’s upcoming elections can impact this goal by making available to all (voters any or all of the following resources:

Download and print the “Application for Absentee by Mail Ballot” form from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s web site at the following web address:
http://www.sec.state.la.us/elections...tee_ballot.pdf

In cities across the U.S., lone individuals and grass roots organizers are distributing thousands of these forms to displaced residents of Louisiana who now reside in their area. As many of the displaced do not have internet access, mass hand-to-hand distribution of these forms to displaced voters will be the best opportunity for many of them to get them in enough time to return them promptly to their parish’s Registrar of Voters.

For clarity on the State of Louisiana’s election plan, as it specifically relates to displaced voters, visit the following url’s:
http://www.sec.state.la.us/elections...ions-index.htm
http://www.sos.louisiana.gov/electio...-displaced.htm
http://sos.louisiana.gov/elections/D...dVoterFAQs.htm

Volunteer the resources of your business or organization to fax a displaced voter’s Absentee Ballot Request form to the Louisiana Secretary of State at (504) 658-8315. Please note, however, that if a person faxes their Absentee Ballot Request or their actual Ballot to this number, they must also do so with a signed waiver of their right to a secret ballot attached to the fax.

Provide vehicle transportation to and from New Orleans that would allow a displaced voter or a group of displaced voters to vote in Louisiana’s April 22 Municipal elections in person. Many groups and political analysts have urged the need to bus people from where ever they are back to the state of Louisiana to vote. With the election less than 6 weeks away, it is very unlikely that the means with which to transport tens of thousands of voters to New Orleans to vote will come from one specific group or organization. However, social and civic groups, fraternities and sororities, churches and even private citizens (at their own discretion) across the U.S. all have the power and resources to make voting in person a possibility for displaced New Orleanians in their area.

There will be 22 candidates in this election. It will be interesting.
