There is a major for event mangment, though not a lot of schools offer it. I know this because it is part of my major (Sports, Entertainment and Event Mangment). Is it required to get a job in the field? Exprience counts more, but yes, you acutally really do need it if it's what you want to go into. There is so much that goes on while planning an event, wethere it be a wedding, a convention, or a gala, that it's crazy.
I loved my event mangment class and it gave me a better idea of what I wanted to do with my degree, and even though event planning isn't exactly what I want to go into, it is something that is offered and needed.
Jestor, I'm glad you realize that is it a hard field to go into. If you PM me I'll pass along some advice that was given to a few of the guys in my Intro to SEE class that want to go into coaching.
Good luck to you, and I'm gald that your not giving up. It's not easy, and remember, networking is KEY in this field.
