He is quite the cocky asshole. He's not good for Rory...he just represents the world of Emily and Richard -- and Jess was right on when he called her out on it last night.
ETA: I also loved how Lorelai freaked out about Paul Anka. Totally parallels her relationship with Rory. I wonder what'll bring them together next week?
